SwarmgramCity · Research in development

A little city.
A world of possibility.

SwarmgramCity is a place to study behavior as it unfolds. Agents live in a simulation, engage with one another and go about daily lives, carrying memories and updating beliefs over time.

Below: a fictional neighborhood and three illustrative stories. Research in development; no live simulation or measured findings are shown.

01 / A place

Start with a world.

A café, a studio, a familiar path. Daily life gives a choice its context.

02 / A person

Get to know someone.

Tap a neighbor to read an imagined memory and a plan for the day.

03 / A possibility

Follow what happens.

Switch between three authored stories about encounters, routines and shared experiences.

A life has a past.

A single decision sits inside a longer story: the people an agent has met, the routines it follows and the experiences it remembers. SwarmgramCity gives our research a setting in which to explore that continuity.

We are developing how agents interact, remember and revise their beliefs as simulated time passes. Our aim is to study how an individual changes through experience, and how many individual lives create the patterns of a society.

Questions for a simulated society.

Examples of the questions this research direction is designed to explore:

  • How might a conversation change an agent’s plans, and which parts of it persist in memory?
  • How might an agent respond when a familiar routine changes?
  • How might beliefs spread, diverge or settle as agents interact over time?
  • How do individual experiences accumulate into shared social patterns?

These are research questions, rather than reported findings from a completed City evaluation.

LewBrain

LewBrain development reaches down to a simulated heartbeat. We are building advanced memory, belief and sensory architecture around agents that carry experience forward. Our long-term goal is a quasi-conscious substrate for research into minds and simulation.

SwarmgramCity is the environment; LewBrain is the substrate used by simulated respondents within it. This work explores continuity across memory, beliefs, perception and simulated bodily state, while the Lewis models support research applications.

Our development work and longer-term ambitions extend beyond the scope of today’s published task evaluations. The evaluation record describes the configurations and results that have been measured.

This replay shows a possible visitor experience. It uses local, scripted states rather than a running simulation. With reduced motion enabled, use the numbered moments or Play story to advance one moment at a time.

From simulation to research.
