The model
Lewis
Lewis is our own fine-tuned model. It plays the part of 170,000+ people built from real U.S. Census data, spread across live city and state panels. Ask it a question and it answers the way that population would. The panel reads real daily news and shifts over time; whether lived history improves prediction of opinion change is an open research question we're testing publicly — see our research notes. We've checked its answers against 460 real polling questions to know how close it gets.

We checked Lewis against real polls.
The only honest way to trust a synthetic panel is to ask it questions we already know the real answer to. So we did, 460 of them, and published how close it got.
